LIGHT INTERPLAYS BETWEEN PHOTOGRAPHY AND MODERN ARCHITECTURE. TRANSPARENCY AND REFLECTION

In the 1920s and 1930s, photography became the most important medium for conveying transparent and reflective glass-iron architecture. The ideas of New Building such as spatial penetration and dematerialization could be convincingly visualized in photographs that were influenced by New Vision.

What role did the interaction between the material and media qualities of glass and photography play? And what influence did photography have on the designs and the understanding of Neues Bauen? I explore this as well as the concept of transparency at that time by means of numerous historical pictures and texts.
